The text discusses at least two chemotheraputic drugs used for treating cancer. Can you describe how these drugs were originally obtained? Use your answer to provide one rationale for preserving the diversity of species on the planet

What will be an ideal response?

The text discusses taxol that comes from the bark of the Pacific yew tree, and vinblastine that comes from the periwinkle plant. These are only two of thousands of drugs that were originally extracted from some plant species. Imagine the drugs that might have been extracted from species of plants (or fungi, animals, etc.) that have already become extinct. Biodiversity is a treasure chest of potential resources. We should strive to preserve diversity for that reason as well as many other reasons.
