Explain why a 10BaseT Ethernet network cannot send and receive data simultaneously, even though it uses separate pairs of wires to send and receive data.
What will be an ideal response?
A 10BaseT network uses a bus communication topology. One of the issues with bus communication is that devices essentially share the same cable. This applies to pure bus networks and hybrid star-bus networks as well. Only one device can use the segment contained in the hub without causing a collision. The NICs need some way to determine which machine should send data at which time. CSMA/CD is a system used to determine which computer should use a shared cable at a given moment.
