L.W. wants to know about adoption. What will you tell her?

What will be an ideal response?

Many women who make the choice to allow the child to be adopted are comforted by the
knowledge that their child is loved and living in a good home. Adoption can be arranged through
church organizations, social service agencies, attorneys, and relatives. Adoptions can be either
open (the adoptive parents and birth parents know one another) or closed (the names are kept
secret from both parties). Adoption is legal and binding whether it is open or closed. Adoptions are
rarely overturned by the courts. In most states the baby's father can obtain custody unless he has
signed court papers releasing the child for adoption. Social service agencies can assist in identifying
adoption agencies and private attorneys.
