Explain why an understanding of equivalency is critical to mastering fractions concepts and skills
What will be an ideal response?
Without understanding equivalency, students will be able to apply very few of the fractions skills they learn. For example, if students do not understand that when the numerator and the denominator are the same, then the fraction is equal to one, they will not understand why 4/5 can be multiplied by 3/3 to create the equivalent fraction 12/15.
