Discuss the formation of Late Paleozoic mineral resources. How are these resources used? What will be an ideal response?
Late Paleozoic mineral resources include bituminous and anthracite coal, petroleum, evaporites,
limestone, and quartz sand. Coal deposits formed in abundant swamps during the Carboniferous
and Permian. Petroleum resources were also formed in basins like the Michigan Basin.
Evaporite deposits include the Zechstein evaporites of Europe. Quartz sand is important for the
production of glass.
