What is the National Environmental Policy Act and what is the purpose of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that is required by this act?

What will be an ideal response?

NEPA is a broad-based environmental statute that imposes continuing
responsibility on the federal government to protect the natural and human
environment. As a means to that end, Section 102 of NEPA requires all federal
agencies to create a statement—commonly known as an environmental
impact statement (EIS)—that details the environmental impact of proposed
federal actions “significantly affecting the quality of the human environment.”
