Briefly describe the successes of the Malpai Borderlands restoration project

The Malpai Project seeks to restore the productivity of depleted rangelands in southern Arizona and New Mexico by restoring some of the original conditions of the prairie ecosystem. In scientifically driven demonstration projects, the Malpai Group has convinced ranchers to implement controlled burns and areas of grazing exclosures to restore damaged prairies. They now hold annual conferences to spread and share the results of their management techniques.
