Oversupervision is perhaps the most common failing of an inexperienced supervisor. It arises from his failure to delegate tasks, because of either a lack of confidence in his subordinates or a disinclination to relinquish what he thinks are his supervisory prerogatives. When he takes it upon himself to do his subordinates' work, initiative is corroded, and morale invariably suffers. Subordinates do not expect him to do their work and do not respect him for it when he does.
