What is the impact of the Voting Rights Act of 1965?

What will be an ideal response?

Congress passed the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which established a number of prohibitions and procedures designed to end racial discrimination in voting. This law was designed to supplement the Fifteenth Amendment through a number of provisions, including several which focus on preserving the equal representation of voters in different legislative voting districts. In Alabama Legislative Black Caucus v. Alabama (2015 ), a 5—4 Court rejected a lower court's conclusion that Alabama's race-based redistricting plan satisfied strict scrutiny. As a result, the Court found that Alabama's use of race to draw their districts fell short of the aims of the Equal Protection Clause and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
