What are the three stages in teaching students to write single-digit numerals? Describe each stage
What will be an ideal response?
The three stages in teaching students to write single-digit numerals are: tracing numerals written on worksheets, copying numerals, and writing numerals from dictation. When tracing numerals written on worksheets, dots and dashes are used to prompt the students. During the first several lessons, the teacher leads the students through tracing and, if necessary, guides the students’ hands. The students say the name of the numeral each time they write the numeral. When the students are able to trace a numeral without assistance, the teacher introduces copying. Initially, dashed lines and dots appear for the first numeral and only dots for the remaining numerals. After students successfully write numerals with these prompts, the teacher removes the dashed lines and dots. The third stage includes numeral dictation exercises in which the teacher says a number and the students write a numeral.
