How should teachers teach students to form the alphabet letters correctly?
What will be an ideal response?
Students do need instruction in how to form letters. Some teachers will provide this instruction during the editing stage of the writing process. They will select one or two letters that the student seems to be having difficulty forming correctly. They will give verbal directions for how to form each of the two letters, model how to construct the letters, and observe the student as the student repeats the steps in making the letters while saying the directions softly. They will provide the student with corrective feedback and observe while the student correctly forms the letters three or four times. They will ask the student to select the best-formed letter. With students with special needs, they will not ask them to verbalize the steps for forming a letter while learning it. Instead, they will have them examine a model of the letter marked with numbered arrows and then reproduce the letter from memory. Other teachers will find that their school district has purchased a handwriting program or technology tools as a guide for teaching its students to form letters correctly.
