How are the coefficient of determination and correlation similar? How are they different?

What will be an ideal response?

The coefficient of determination and correlation are similar in that they are based on the same information – the coefficient of determination is the correlation squared (r2). They are different in that whereas the correlation is an index (and uninterpretable on its own), the coefficient of determination is a proportion that expresses what proportion of variance in one variable is explained by variance in the other.
