In welded construction, what is meant by the term end return? Use a sketch if necessary.

What will be an ideal response?

When fillet welds extend to the corner of a member, it is common practice to continue the weld around the corner for a short distance. This continuation of the weld is known as the end return, and its length is usually twice the nominal size of the weld. The purpose of the end return is to reduce high-stress concentrations, but is not required by AISC.
