Most professional organizations involved in the human services professions have adopted formal codes of ethics. Explain why this is necessary and provide one example of an ethical dilemma a human services professional may encounter when working with clients.
What will be an ideal response?
Formal codes of ethics are in place to prescribe the obligations and responsibilities of professionals working in a given field. They are reviewed and updated on a regular basis to review troublesome issues and changing societal standards and to recommend modifications to the code as they become necessary. An example of an ethical dilemma would be a human services professional who was asked to treat one of his/her supervisees (or any of a number of other possible ethical dilemmas that would be discussed in class or in an online discussion board).
