How are alimony and child support payments established?

What will be an ideal response?

The court determines whether alimony should be ordered, based on factors such as the length of the marriage, grounds for divorce, assets, debts, income, health and employability of the parties. If there are children who are issue of the marriage, the court will also determine whether joint custody is in the best interests of the child, or will order custody of any minor children be given to one parent only. The court will also determine the appropriate amount of child support, based on federally mandated state child support guidelines.
