Consider the functions of formal organizations. Which of these functions are most consistent with and which seem contrary to social work's goals and values. Are there any organizations in which a social worker should not work? Provide a rationale for your answer.
What will be an ideal response?
Formal organizations meet our needs, help us fulfill goals, and nurture our development. These sorts of organizations act in line with social work values. Some formal organizations also make stressful demands, thwart our goals, inhibit our holistic development, and constrain our behavior. These are not in line with social work values. Social work values coincide with organizations that follow Theory Y management styles and non-hierarchical organizations where people's strengths are emphasized, autonomy is encouraged, and great behavior is expected from employees.
