Toddlers and young preschoolers can learn about the parts of their bodies. They have interest in and awareness of similarities and difference among them, such as their height, hair color, and eye color. Older preschoolers and primary students have awareness of unseen parts of the body including the brain, stomach, and heart. Age appropriate concepts including exploring the parts of the body and what they can/cannot do (e.g., can you touch your elbow to your ear?”) and learning about the different senses. Children can learn concepts of growth and change by charting their own growth and by comparing current photos with themselves as babies. Curriculum supports can include models of the respiratory, heart, or digestive systems, books, dolls, items for self-care and grooming, and displays that show differences among people.
