is easy to recognize a turtle as a turtle, but why has it been difficult to categorize them

taxonomically?

What will be an ideal response?

Morphological and molecular data are sometimes at odds with each other. Older data suggest turtles to
be anapsids, while current classification indicates they are diapsids. This classification suggests that
turtles lost diapsid traits and returned to what appears to be the anapsid condition. However, recent
fossil, morphological and genetic analysis provides support for the classification of turtles as anapsids.
