Describe Albert Cohen’s concept of subculture and how the concept relates to delinquency.

What will be an ideal response?

Albert Cohen observed the boys encouraged each other to commit delinquent acts because they believed they could not meet middle-class standards. This is the concept of subculture. When they became involved in the juvenile justice system, they acquired negative self-esteem and felt that they were failures in the eyes of the larger society. Cohen believed that delinquents did not necessarily commit crime for personal benefit but as a vengeful act for being left with feelings of inadequacy.
