List the steps needed to make a letdown panel.

What will be an ideal response?

The panel is masked off with paper, starting from the bottom so it has five to six panels that can be opened later. The last panel is left open, cleaned, and then the first coat of mid-coat is applied to the panel. When the proper flash time has been observed, the next panel is opened and a second coat is applied. This is continued until the panel is completely coated. The letdown panel now has only one coat on the bottom of the panel, two on the next, and so on until the top one, which has the most coats. When the proper flash time is observed, the panel is masked off in the opposite way from the mid-coat application, and two coats of clear are applied to half of the panel. The panel now has ground coat on it with five to six progressive coats of mid-coat, and finally two coats of clear, as the vehicle will have. The letdown panel can now be checked against the vehicle so the technician knows how many coats of midcoat must be applied.
