What is meant by the term sample-population congruence and why is it important in survey research?

What will be an ideal response?

Sample-population congruence, which refers to how well the sample subjects represent the population, is always a major concern. Here we are speaking of how well the individuals in a sample represent the population from which they are presumably drawn. Bias can enter either through the initial selection of respondents or through incomplete responses of those who agree to take part in the study. In either case a mismatch exists between the sample and the population of interest. These problems arise to varying degrees in every type of survey.
