Climate change is sometimes called an inconvenient truth. How do scientists, and Americans at large, view global warming?

What will be an ideal response?

The ideal answer should include:
1. There is widespread consensus among scientists that climate change is a real and present danger.
2. See Figure 14-3.
3. There is continued debate about it among laypeople: two-thirds believe it is happening and caused by human activities, but one-third do not.
4. Sixty percent of people say it has already begun, but less than half (45 percent) believe it will pose a serious threat in their lifetime.
5. Less than half of adults worry a great deal about global warming, similar to the number who say they worry a great deal about the environment more generally.
6. One-third believe the seriousness is exaggerated.
