Explain the major purposes of patrol and how patrols can be improved

What will be an ideal response?

Uniformed patrol officers are the backbone of the department and are the most visible component of the entire criminal justice system. The purposes of patrol include deterring crime by visible presence, maintaining public order, responding quickly to law violations or emergencies, identifying and apprehending law violators, aiding individuals who cannot help themselves, facilitating the movement of traffic and people, and creating a feeling of community security. Patrol can be improved by proactive policing and directed patrol, making arrests, improving response time, broken windows policing, and using technology.
