EPM is the process of observing ongoing employee action using computers or other nonhuman methods. It has continued to increase at work. The biggest value to EPM seems to be that is provide information for concrete results-based performance evaluations. But there are ethical questions concerning constant monitoring of employees as well as questions of how the monitoring affects health of those employees. Finally, the negative consequences of EPM may cause lower productivity overall if employees are unhappy as well as an increase in turnover—both seriously negative outcomes.
