Piaget differentiated between accommodation and assimilation when facing new information. Define these two terms and identify the difference between them with regard to the responses required of the learner

What will be an ideal response?

Answer:
Assimilation: the simple addition of new and complementary information into an individual's existing cognitive schema
Accommodation: the process of handling new information that requires the alteration of existing schema to accommodate new and contradictory information and experiences
When handling new information, the learners need to compare it to what they already know, and then determine if assimilation or accommodation is needed. Failure to recognize the situation when information contradicts previously-held information can result in the storage of the contradictory items, making both pieces of information unusable.
