ANSWER: Even though summer days are long, the Sun is never very high above the horizon. Additionally, some of the sunlight that reaches the surface is reflected by snow and ice, while some is used to melt the frozen soil. Consequently, in spite of the long hours of daylight, summers are quite cool.
