Group norms are rules or standards that depict which behaviors are considered appropriate and inappropriate – in delegating tasks, resolving conflicts, expecting participation, handling attendance, etc. They may apply to individuals or the group as a whole. Group norms differ from one culture to another. , but may include these American norms (along with opposing norms of other cultures): to get down to business with no socializing, to accept the sexes mixing in meetings, to value punctuality, to meet with only one party at a time, and to avoid interpersonal touching.
