Describe paradoxical breathing and what causes it
What will be an ideal response?
Paradoxical breathing is a holding pattern in which the respiratory muscles work in a reverse action during breathing, constricting the chest wall on inhalation and expanding it on exhalation. This pattern occurs in people with severe respiratory distress, chronically obstructed airways, spinal cord injuries that cause paralysis of muscles below the diaphragm, or multiple rib fractures.
