How has masculinity conferred both privilege and vulnerability over time? How has this affected the lives and life chances of both men and women?

What will be an ideal response?

Men have had greater access to power and privilege, from government positions and voting to control of business. With this came expectations of success and being a good provider that men with limited education, income, and class position often cannot fulfill. Women have faced both being held back to make room for men, and at times, called on to shoulder extra burdens for men who could not fulfill their roles.
