Describe what variance is and discuss the importance of reporting standard deviation when you report the mean score on any interval level variable.
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Variance is the extent to which the subjects in a study are similar to each other or different from one another. For instance, in a sample of six subjects whose ages are 24, 45, 51, 55, 67, and 82, there is a wide variation in their ages and not of similar nature. Whereas, if the clients have the ages of 23, 25, 26, 27, 29, and 31, they are considered to having similar ages. Thus, the first set of ages has higher variance than the second set.
