What are some disadvantages of 3-D modeling when considering section views?

One disadvantage of the nearly automatic section creation offered by 3-D modeling is that in some cases, the modeling becomes too accurate. Many of the shortcuts and clarification practices used in traditional drafting are no longer available in some software. For example, a section through a spoke or vane used in a 3-D model would show the spoke or vane filled with section lines, not blank as would be preferred. Also, all projections would be true projections. With an object of odd rotational symmetry, there would be no opportunity to modify the projection to create a symmetrical presentation, as would be preferred. With some software, the step edges of an offset section may be visible in the section view, and not removed as is practiced.

Another disadvantage of 3-D modeling is that manual creation of section views has been a traditional method of developing spatial reasoning and mental imaging skills. When the process is too automatic with software, a person may not adequately develop these skills in the absence of the software and may become too dependent on the software. When faced with multiple section views in a shop drawing, that person may not be able to create a mental image of the part or may not develop the skills necessary to interpret the drawings. Eventually, the person will develop these skills, but it may require exposure to many solids models and their drawings.

A poorly designed latrine is located upstream of a surface drinking water source. Two cubic meters of stormwater contaminated by the latrine and containing 1010 MPN/100ml of salmonella flow into a shallow pool for collecting drinking water. The total volume of the drinking water pool after the contaminated water flows into it is 5 cubic meters. If the typical infectious dose for salmonella in this community if 100 organisms, how much water would someone have to drink to become ill due to the salmonella contamination?

On your 23rd birthday you open a 401K account (retirement account). At that time and on each succeeding birthday up to and including your 60th birthday, you deposit $2 000. During this period the interest rate on the account remains constant at 6.8 percent. No further payments are made, and beginning one month after your 65th birthday you begin withdrawing equal payments (the annual interest rate is the same as before). How much will you withdraw each month if the account is to be depleted with the last check on your 85th birthday? Assume annual compounding up to your 65th birthday and monthly compounding thereafter.
