What will be an ideal response?
A discrepancy model looks for differences in performance, such as differences between classroom performance and standardized test scores, or differences between scores on intelligence tests and achievement tests. If scores are inconsistent, a learning problem might be suspected.
Critics of the discrepancy model argue that it identifies a disability only after a problem surfaces, and, what are needed, they assert, are early screening measures that can prevent failure before it occurs, and processes that provide specific information about the nature of the learning problem and what can be done to correct it.
