What role does probability play in selecting a sample and the results obtained from the sample?
What will be an ideal response?
Probability plays an important role in both selecting a sample and how well the sample data estimate the population data. Probability plays a role in probability samples that provide the best representative sample. In probability samples, the chance of any individual being selected for the sample is known and can be determined ahead of time. The sample mean also has a particular probability of estimating the population mean that may not be known while collecting the sample. This probability can be useful though in calculating a confidence interval that holds the population mean in its range with a particular probability determined by the researcher.
