Explain how interferometry works

What will be an ideal response?

Interferometry is a technique of connecting multiple telescopes together to work, in a sense, as if they comprised a single very large telescope. In an interferometer, light from the separate telescopes is brought together and combined carefully. By using this technique, astronomers have been able to achieve very high resolution.
