Consider the following statement: Geneticists working in genetic recombination are technological optimists. In your explanation, discuss why this statement is true. Describe genetic recombination and technological optimists, and provide supporting evidence.

What will be an ideal response?

Genetic recombination involves removing specific genes from one organisms and inserting them into another. This type of technology allows for many advantages. Someone who sees the positive benefits of this technology would be a technological optimist. Scientists working in this field would obviously see the benefits; opponents would most likely not be those in the field of genetic engineering. There are many benefits including: improved crops (yield, pest and disease resistance, salt tolerance, etc.), vaccines could be placed in foods like bananas and potatoes, insulin and other hormones can be mass-produced relatively cheaply.
