Explain the current political environment in regard to Second Amendment laws in the United States
What will be an ideal response?
Thus far, the judiciary has left most gun control laws to the states, to be determined through the political process. This lack of involvement has concerned many leaders in law enforcement. Prospects for reform at the federal level have improved somewhat. In 2009, Washington showed little or no appetite for taking on gun crime issues. Currently, in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut, school shooting, gun control has become a more prominent topic among legislators and citizens alike. The struggle to find common ground, however, remains a challenge.
