A developer plans to chop down several healthy trees on her property, burn them, and put a huge concrete pad in their place. Why are these activities environmentally unwise?
What will be an ideal response?
The trees take up carbon dioxide and provide oxygen while providing food and homes for many other organisms. The burning will add carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, and levels of the gas will increase in the air. Finally, the concrete pad will not allow water to soak into the ground but will cause it to run rapidly off, probably into a storm sewer.
