How do between-subjects designs and within-subjects designs differ from one another? What are the benefits and drawbacks associated with each?
What will be an ideal response?
Answer may vary. Between-subjects designs are where subjects only receive one
treatment while within-subjects design is where subjects receive all treatments. Within- subjects is most efficient because it requires fewer subjects, but does not work well with experiments having possible carry-over effect. Within-subjects designs are also at risk of having subjects catch on to the researchers’ intentions. In addition, within-subjects designs require most stimuli and typically are more time consuming.
