Currently, what are the main sources of marine pollution? How can these be reduced or eradicated in the future?
Runoff and discharges from land, and airborne emissions from land, are the largest sources of marine pollution. Examples of ways to reduce this pollution include limiting the emission of carbon dioxide that warms the climate and acidifies the ocean, reducing and recycling plastic waste, reducing the amount of agricultural fertilizer that is able to run off into rivers, and reducing urban and industrial releases into bays.
