Discuss some causes of hyponatremia

What will be an ideal response?

Hyponatremia is an abnormal decrease in the plasma sodium ion concentration. The most common cause of hyponatremia is overhydration. The hypersecretion of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) can cause hyponatremia. Sometimes hyponatremia can exist with dehydration, which occurs with a primary loss of sodium ions and water molecules. This can be caused by prolonged vomiting and/or diarrhea, decreased aldosterone secretion, and diuretic overuse. In such cases, the osmolarity of the extracellular fluid (ECF) is generally nearly isotonic to the cytosol, so isotonic saline is used instead of hypertonic saline.
