Discuss Coping with being a Cop
What will be an ideal response?
In recent years law enforcement administrators have used various means to help officers with the challenges and pressures of their jobs. For example, today we have better selection procedures to help weed out applicants who may not be able to meet certain challenges such as pressures on the job. This is where some specialized type of testing could be valuable such as psychological testing. In addition, officers are given more training today than in the past to respond to the tasks required of them. Training as a means of coping often extends way beyond the basic training received at a police academy and may continue throughout one's career in the form of special classes or seminars designed to help officers with changing situations. There is also the development of employee programs such as family programs, stress related programs, and substance abuse programs that may be available for officers. Officers can also receive some help from non-profit assistance groups such as the organization Concerns of Police Survivors.
