What is the difference between an integrative and eclectic approach?

What will be an ideal response?

An integrative approach requires a therapist to have knowledge of different psychotherapeutic
approaches. The therapist must master not only the main characteristics of therapies but also their
applicability—that is, the problems for which a concrete therapy is suitable. An integrative approach
enables the therapist to use the treatment that is proven to be most appropriate for a certain problem.
Also, in cases of multiple problems, the therapist can use multiple approaches—an adequate approach
for each problem. On the other hand, a therapist that takes on an eclectic approach is familiar with
different approaches, but instead of using them according to empirical findings in treating issues for
which they are appropriate, he or she uses them according to his or her own personal judgment.
Therefore, the eclectic approach cannot be considered empirically based.
