Define noise, explain the function of the Noise filters, and list at least three Noise filters with brief descriptions of each.
What will be an ideal response?
Noise is a term that refers to hazy, grainy, or extraneous pixels as well as flecks of random color distributed through a background. Noise also can refer to variation in brightness or color information. The Noise filters add or remove noise and help blend a selection into the surrounding pixels. Noise filters can create unusual textures or remove problem areas, such as dust and scratches. Add Noise applies random pixels to an image, simulating the effect of high-speed film photography. Despeckle detects edges of color in an image and blurs all of the selection except those edges. Dust & Scratches reduces noise by changing dissimilar pixels. Median reduces noise by blending the brightness of pixels within a selection, useful for eliminating or reducing the effect of motion of an image. Reduce Noise reduces noise while preserving edges based on user settings.
