Cultural relativism is the attempt to understand an unfamiliar culture on its own terms. Cultural relativism is difficult to practice because one's own culture appears to be both natural and right, since it was acquired as a child and practiced throughout life. When one encounters a new and different culture, the practices, tools, values, and behavior may be radically different, resulting in confusion and disorientation. This further adds to the inability to accept or objectively evaluate a different culture.
