What is the function of the CTD tail of RNA polymerase II?

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: This domain of RNA polymerase II is phosphorylated by the kinase activity of TFIIH; this may be required for elongation. For some genes, the CTD tail is further phosphorylated later, probably to allow elongation to continue rather than abort after a short RNA is formed. The CTD tail may also play a role in RNA processing, both splicing and capping of the 5? and 3? ends of the transcript.
