Knowing some basic principles can help you create a user-friendly navigation system for any size Web site.  Describe the three types of navigation discussed in the chapter:  (1) global navigation, (2) local navigation, and (3) related navigation.  Include an example of how each type of navigation might be used.

What will be an ideal response?

Global navigation is the navigation that appears consistently on each page, usually at the top or left side. It usually contains links to each top-level section in the site.  For example, a site that sells books, music, and movies might feature links to each of these major categories in the global navigation, which would appear the same on each page.

Local navigation is the navigation that appears in a specific section of a site, and it tends to change from section to section.  For example, a site that sells books, music, and movies like the one mentioned above would feature links to more specific subcategories in each section, such as action and comedy in the movie section or pop and jazz in the music section.  Local navigation isn't always necessary, but it's useful when there is so much content in a section that global navigation is inadequate.

Related navigation usually appears within the content area and highlights content related to that page's information. For example, the page featuring a specific movie for sale might list movies by the same director in the related navigation.
