Why is there a relationship between biodiversity and the long-term health of an ecosystem?
What will be an ideal response?
In a diverse ecosystem, the extinction of one species will leave a role in the ecosystem that another species may then fill. If the ecosystem is not diverse, then there might not be another species that can fill that role and the ecosystem's health may decrease due to changes in the efficiency of the ecosystem's nutrient cycling.
