With known technologies, we are familiar with the risks associated with using the technology, e.g., using a cell phone for texting and the wear and tear on our fi ngers. We also accept any possible danger associated with using the cell phone, e.g., radiation from the transmitter. With unknown technologies, we don’t have an internalized understanding of risk and benefi t, so we are more wary of using the technology because of possible unknown and undiscovered consequences.
