The field of environmental health encompasses four types of hazards: (1 ) physical, which includes blizzards, hurricanes, earthquakes, fires, and floods; (2 ) chemical, which involves exposure to natural and synthetic substances; (3 ) biological, which involves exposure to pathogenic organisms and viruses; and (4 ) cultural, which includes occupational, social, and behavioral exposure such as coal mining, driving, and smoking cigarettes.
