Compare and contrast normal and abnormal coping. Cite examples from the story of Dan in reference to both normal and abnormal coping in his life.

What will be an ideal response?

Normal and abnormal coping are defined differently depending on whom one asks. One might instead think of these coping processes as adaptive and maladaptive. Dan sought an apology from his friend when he perceived a repeated slight, which shows him standing up for what he believes as typical standards for respect. However, he also expected everyone to see things his way, rather than being open to others' perspectives. This caused him significant distress due to his rigidity, and may be reflective of maladaptive thinking, potentially even a personality disorder.
